How to do it

  1. Kneel down and loop a mini band under your knees, gripping the other end palms up.
  2. Keep your elbows pinned to your sides.
  3. Curl your hands up toward your shoulders against the band's pull.
  4. Lower slowly, fighting the tension all the way down.

The one cue that matters

Squeeze hard at the top, the band's tension peaks where it counts most.

Muscles worked

Kneeling on the band turns your own bodyweight into the anchor, and curling against it gives you a resistance curve that is the mirror image of free weights, light at the bottom and heaviest right at the top squeeze. That peak contraction loading is exactly where dumbbell curls go easy on you. No bench, no weights, just pinned elbows and a band, which makes it a legit pump tool anywhere.

FAQ

Are band curls as effective as dumbbell curls?

They load the opposite part of the rep, bands are hardest at the top where dumbbells are easiest. Neither replaces the other, which is why pairing them covers the whole curl.

My elbows drift forward when I curl the band, does it matter?

Yes, drifting elbows turn the curl into a front raise and unload the biceps. Pin your elbows to your sides and make the forearm the only thing that moves.

What if the mini band is too easy to curl?

Kneel on more of the band to shorten the working length, or loop it doubled. Shorter band means tension arrives earlier and climbs harder.
