How to do it

  1. Loop a band around an anchor and your inside ankle.
  2. Stand side-on so the band pulls your leg outward.
  3. Pull your working leg in across your body against the band.
  4. Return slowly, then switch sides.

The one cue that matters

Keep the standing leg planted and drive the motion from the inner thigh.

Muscles worked

This flips the usual band drill around, the anchor pulls your leg away and your adductors drag it back in across your body. The inner thigh works through a long arc with tension rising as the band stretches, one leg at a time. Adductors are major players in squat depth and change of direction, so training them directly plugs a gap most programmes leave wide open.

FAQ

Do I really need to train my inner thighs?

If you squat, sprint, or play any sport with side-to-side movement, yes. The adductors help drive your hips out of the hole in a squat and control your knee when you cut. Weak ones show up as groin strains at the worst possible time.

How does this compare to the seated adduction machine?

Same target muscle, different context. The machine locks you in and lets you load heavy, the standing band version makes you stabilise on one leg while the other works, which carries over better to sport. Use whichever your setup allows, or both.

I keep losing balance. What am I doing wrong?

You are probably standing too far from the anchor and letting the band yank you around. Step in slightly, soften the standing knee, and keep your hips square. A fingertip on a wall is fine while you build the stability.
