Cross behind, stay tall, balance like an athlete.

Split your weight between arms and the planted leg so the straps assist, not carry you.
Sweeping the free leg behind and across the planted one drops you into a deep curtsy position on a single working leg, with the straps sharing just enough load to keep the movement smooth. The planted quad drives you out of the bottom while the glute of that same side works overtime, loaded across the body at an angle straight lunges never reach. It earns its place as balance training disguised as leg training, the crossing sweep constantly shifting your centre of mass while one leg holds the fort.
Same crossing idea, different flow. Here you start from a knee-up balance position and sweep the free leg through each rep, so there is a continuous balance challenge on the planted leg rather than a step from standing.
Enough to keep the rep smooth and no more. The steps call for splitting weight between arms and the planted leg, but the leg should always be doing the majority.
The crossing sweep moves your centre of mass mid-rep, which is the training effect. Slow the sweep down, fix your eyes on a point ahead, and the wobble shrinks with practice.
