Band-loaded scissors for lower-ab grit.

Keep tension on the band the whole set so your abs never get a rest.
Scissor kicks live and die on the lower abs holding your pelvis steady while your legs alternate, and the band around your feet means every up and every down kick meets resistance. Because the legs never touch down, the abs never get a rest, they hold the whole lever off the floor for the entire set. It is a simple upgrade that makes an old-school ab drill genuinely load-bearing.
Raise your legs higher, the closer they scissor to the floor the harder your abs must work to hold the pelvis. Work at a height where your lower back stays pressed down, then lower over time.
Moderate. Big enough that the band stretches meaningfully on each kick, small enough that your pelvis never rocks, wild flailing means the band and your abs have both lost tension.
Around the feet or ankles, wherever it stays put while you kick. Feet placement gives slightly more leverage against the band and tends to stay in place better.
